Review: L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Gloss
I picked these up at Rite Aid last week and have been dying to review them for the blog. Admittedly, the name confused me since Matte Gloss seems like an oxymoron but I was equally intrigued. I grabbed two colors, Nude Allude (517) and Rouge Envy (513). Keep reading for pictures, swatches and my final verdict!
As you can see, the packaging isn't anything spectacular, just a standard tube. Very similar to the regular infallible glosses. (Nude Allude at the top and Rouge Envy at the bottom)
This is Rouge Envy. Despite the name, it is not red but a dark pink with a reddish tone. The applicator is great, I get precision application with the pointed doe foot wand. Enough product gets on the applicator that you can great even coverage with the product that gets on the applicator.
Here is Nude Allude. Although the name says nude, I wouldn't consider it your run of the mill nudes. I actually don't really care for the color on myself since it comes off a little too orange on me.
These do not come with safety seals but you can tell if the product has been used if this little reservoir is filled with the gloss. Here you can see the product starting to fill the tube as you pull the wand out.
And now the swatches! (Nude Allude left, Rouge Envy right)
The formula is quite nice, It does not feel like the Lime Crime Velvetines which feel very liquidy and then dry completely matte. These Pro Matte Glosses never truly "set" but they wear slightly matte. I prefer a very matte look so I dab my lips gently with tissue to dull the shine.
Final Verdict
I give these a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I did like that the formula was comfortable and velvety on the lips and the applicator offers good coverage with little effort. I do prefer a super matte look so these were a little disappointing. The color selection wasn't great either. It was full of bright electric colors that didn't appeal to me, at least not in the winter. I don't mind the signature L'Oreal scent, it goes away eventually. These are Limited Edition so I'm crossing my fingers that better colors are released permanently!
